This event was described by a couple of people as
"not that interesting", "didn't enjoy it". OK so it's
long day as you have to register
between 1.30 and 3 and rack bikes by 4.
you may not start until 5.30.
Still when we went we made a day of it and walked
around Tewkesbury which is nice old town with plenty of shops and old
architecture
to look at. the abbey is worth a visit to and has
some fine tombs. the tower was open for views over the Severn estuary.
Missed that trip as
I had to get my bike into transition.
The Swim
Each racer is set of at 30 second intervals and something
along the lines of every 3 mins in each lane so there is very little
congestion.
This is ideal if you have someone to race against
too. Andy Bullock new he had to finish 30 secs ahead of me (& did).
The Bike
A fairly straight forward out and back towards
Bredon with a turn around point well marshalled. You get to see those
ahead of you and behind
You. No real problems with vehicles or turning,
although there was a vintage car rally on this year and I had to over take
an old car who
"maxed" at 25mph or so. Transition is next
to the swimming pool in a car park and is well segregated. no hills but
some steady rises to negotiate
The Run
This looked the tricky bit on paper as the finish
was a bout 1 mile from the transition. Basically you run from the swim/car
park through the town
(main road to negotiate) and then down a few narrow
alley to a large field by the Tewkesbury rugby club. Once there it is two
laps of a field
with slight rises at one point each lap.
Overall a nice race ideal for a novice or
experienced triathlete.
