Taunton 2002

On Sunday 19th four local triathletes travelled to Wellington in Somerset to compete in the Taunton Deane Triathlon. The 400m swim, 23km bike ride and 5k is one of the most popular events in the South West and attracts several hundred participants.

Simon Spedding who runs for Hogweed Trotters and rides for Sodbury Cycle Sport finished 12th overall and took fist place in the over 40’s category by just 12 seconds from Denzil Hunt of Poole tri Club. His times for the three disciplines were 6’11”, 40’44” and 18’25” to give an overall time of 1 hr 5 minutes and 20 seconds. Stuart Salmon also of Sodbury Cycle Sport had the second fastest swim of the event with 5’14”, biked 41’24” and ran 20’53” to finish in 1 hour 7 mins and 31 seconds in 21st place. Dominic Clarke of Southwold Swimming Club who completed his first ever triathlon last September in the novice event at Taunton returned to compete in the main event this year. With times of 6’10/44’38”/20’39” he finished an excellent 47th in a time of 1 hr 11 minutes 14 seconds.

 96th overall and an superb 6th place in the lady’s event was Mandy Spedding of Hogweed Trotters. Her times were 6’52”/47’15”/23’07” for an overall time of 1 hour 17 minutes and fourteen seconds.
