Gloucester 2004 (31st may)

Really sunny this year, same swim, same bike and same run. Lots of traffic though all heading to Brockworth to see idiots chase down a stupidly steep hill after a piece of cheese. Why not roll a Babybel down the aisle at Sainsburys?

first home this year was Rob Pears past winner and over 40 too. Second home andgiving a shock to the older dudes was junior triathlete Simon Gibbs from Devon . Not far behind was Doug Hall from Somerset also a junior, posting an amazing 4'342 swim and it took ten of the seconds to get out of the door. Watch out old duffers the new boys are about

Gloucester 2003 (26th may)

With the sun coming out for a change it was off to Gloucester for the 2003 event.

The 400m swim is followed by a short run to the transition area before a mostly flat 18km bike ride starting on a some semi-busy roads before entering the back lanes around the venue of Brockworth at the foot of the Cotswold hills. the only rise of any note comes towards the end of the ride with a short sharp climb before a ride through Brockworth and back to transition. The run is two loops of a circuit around the estate roads surrounding Brockworth leisure centre school.

First home overall was Bristol based Jon Newsom, currently training with Kingswood Triathlon Club his time was an exceedingly swift 55'39". Hogweed Trotter Simon Spedding retained his V40 prize and was 4th overall in a time of 58 mins and 24 seconds just ahead of a small group of Vet40's.

Not far behind Simon there was a Hogweed battle going on although the Triathlete's were not aware of this while they were racing due to their different starting times. Stuart MacDougal and Paul Chappell were unaware of their new rivalry as they battled around the course around mid-day. At the end of the race they were split by just one second, with Paul edging out Stuart with a time of 1 hr 03'05". Paul's time was over two minutes faster than last year too.

Nor far behind the battling Hogweeds was another Trotter, Steve Clayson from Yate who improved a massive 6 minutes on last years corresponding event. Stephen finished 30th in 1-04'31".

All 4 Hogweeds are regular Swimmers at swim-fit on thursday nights at Yate leisure centre an ideal base to improve your swimming for triathletes or just general fitness.

Not long after the main event the kids event started.
